Spanish Beginners Language Course

Mike Wild

Games Room

This course concentrates from the very beginning on encouraging the participants to speak Spanish. It focuses on situations where the tourist needs to use and understand the language, such as using the phone, booking and checking in at an hotel, buying a bus ticket, shopping, ordering a meal, asking for directions etc. We use BBC Talk Spanish 1, a series of recorded dialogues which we listen to, translate and then re-enact with partners. While the text forms the core of the course other material is provided from time to time to enhance the course.

About the Tutor:

Mike began to learn Spanish when he was 60 by taking evening classes at TAFE for a year in preparation for a long backpacking trip through Spain,

On his return he continued evening classes at the Institute of Modern Languages at the University of Queensland for a further 2 years. Trips to Spain continued every few, more recently without backpack. Between trips he found a series of tutors for weekly Spanish Conversation classes which continue to this day.

When he came to Tewantin, there was no U3A Spanish class so he studied Italian.

Mike began teaching  Beginners Spanish at U3A noosa in 2015
