AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURE and AUSTRALIAN LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER
Darrel Roche has been of great support for our lecture series over the years and his enthusiastic sessions, mainly on history, have kept audiences mesmerised. Recently Darrel completed writing a book entitled “Australian Adventure – Breaking the Umbilical Cord”.
The publisher, Bermingham Books at Mooloolaba, has created a launch release, “Ever yearned for freedom and adventure? These three young lads did, and they experienced plenty of it during a fourteen-month odyssey through Outback Australia in 1970 and 1971. Escaping 9 to 5 monotony, Darrel Roche and his two companions cut the umbilical cord to their jobs, families, and security to embark on a journey of freedom and discovery in the era before computers and mobile phones dominated our lives. This is their true story of making wise decisions and some howlers, experiencing danger, making startling discoveries, and encountering memorable characters while absorbing the beauty of the mighty and majestic Australian Outback!”
What a great read this will be. The book is now with the State Library of Queensland and the National Library of Australia. Darrel will be providing a one-hour presentation of his adventures and an author’s signing for U3A Noosa.
In addition, Darrel will be providing a 45-minute presentation of his four-year adventure as an Australian Lighthouse Keeper with the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service, from 1982 to 1986.
