KATH MCKAY

Kath McKay is a member of the Management Committee. She has a wide range of interests and in the current year has led a group of enthusiastic readers of Homer’s heroic texts the Iliad and  the Odyssey (parts of an epic poem about the Trojan War). She is hoping to next year lead a group in reading Virgil’s Aeneid (in translation, by Shadi Bartsch), the story of Prince Aeneas’ flight from the destruction of Troy to resettle in Italy and establish the foundations of the future Roman Empire, as ordained by  the Gods.

Kath has a BA from ANU, Dip Ed from Sydney and Dip SLT from Massey NZ.

She taught in Sydney and in Dunedin NZ for some years before moving into local government in Cromwell, near Queenstown, where she worked primarily as manager of  Council owned land and property required to facilitate the availability and rezoning and gazetting of land required for new residential subdivisions, schools, sports facilities, recreation reserves and the like required for the partial demolition of the old township and the development of additional facilities required to serve a new modern town with all necessary services and facilities. The work was funded by the NZ Government but managed by agreement by the local council and the Ministry of Works.

Kath and her husband returned to Australia in 2002 and retired to Tewantin in 2005.
