Prominent scientists who contributed to the saving of millions of human lives

Special attention will be paid to such famous Australians such as Howard Florey (penicillin development) and Fred Hollows (eye health).

Howard Walter Florey, Baron Florey of Adelaide and Marston, OM FRS FRCP; 24 September 1898 – 21 February 1968) was an Australian pharmacologist and pathologist who shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945 with Ernst Chain and Sir Alexander Fleming “for the discovery of penicillin and its curative effect in various infectious diseases”

Frederick Cossom Hollows (9 April 1929 – 10 February 1993) was a New Zealand–Australian ophthalmologist who became known for his work in restoring eyesight for people in Australia and many other countries through initiatives such as The Fred Hollows Foundation
