Spanish Advanced Conversation 2026
Jenny Clement and DeAnna Burton
Language Room
Title: Charlamos en espanol
This course aims to have fun practicing spoken Spanish with other intermediate and advanced students in an informal and supportive setting. The coordinators are not native speakers, but between them have spoken Spanish and other languages in local contexts for several decades. They will guide the group discussions by suggesting topics, and finding podcasts to listen to or short articles and novelas to read. We can then discuss these together in class.
Our intention is to speak only in Spanish, even if we may struggle to find the right words. If you can hold a 5 minute conversation in Spanish you’ll be just fine. Students will constructively help each other to find the right word or grammar tense in a friendly environment. We will learn from each other!
Coordinators: Jenny Clement & DeAnna Burton
Jenny began speaking Spanish in the late 1980’s volunteering on a cooperative in Nicaragua. She has continued to dabble in Spanish off and on ever since, including a month studying in Valencia, and last year managing a pilgrim hostel where most pilgrims were native Spanish speakers. She is known to sacrifice accuracy for fluency!
DeAnna Burton has been studying Spanish for over a decade – with varying degrees of discipline. Now that she is recently retired, she is obsessed and making steady progress. In addition to Spanish, she is conversational in German.
