In this new short course students get to combine their twin passions with an introduction to the basics of travel writing. We’ll consider what constitutes great travel writing and study examples by some of the best, such as Bill Bryson and Paul Theroux. Course members will learn how to spot a great subject for a story within their own travel adventures and how to write informative and lively prose, capturing the atmosphere of their chosen destination perhaps by introducing colourful characters or naturalistic dialogue. How to write and illustrate a travel diary, write a travel blog, get creative with photos and collage, even consider how to get published will all be up for discussion, depending on students’ particular interests. There will be short, easy writing exercises to tackle together in class or at home and lots of opportunity to swap travellers’ tales. Bring your own computer and notebook. The tutor is Susan Milne, who was a travel writer on The Australian in Sydney and now lives on the Sunshine Coast. “Hopefully,” she says, “on this course we’ll discover there are as many approaches to travel writing as there are wonderful places to visit.”The course will consist of four sessions ….. details to come Sign up at Reception ...
